About the Artist
Aimee Henning is a Brisbane-based artist creating modern heirloom botanicals inspired by European porcelain and the quiet poetry of nature.
Born in South Africa and raised between cultures, Aimee moved to Australia at sixteen, carrying with her a deep appreciation for heritage, detail, and the natural world. She has long been drawn to the enduring beauty of blue and white Delftware and the romantic elegance of chinoiserie — where porcelain feels both decorative and storied.
The discipline of traditional Gongbi painting, with its subtle “host and visitor” symbolism, gently informs her work, adding quiet layers of meaning beneath each composition.
Art has always been part of her life. Her grandfather continues to paint wildlife with extraordinary realism, teaching patience and careful observation. Her mother approaches drawing with expressive freedom and instinct. Aimee’s own work sits between these influences — structured yet soft, detailed yet intuitive.
Working primarily in watercolour, she paints porcelain vessels, botanicals, and gentle avian visitors with close attention to light, shadow, and space. Her compositions are designed to feel collected rather than styled — timeless pieces intended to feel as though they have always belonged in the home they hang in.
She lives in Brisbane with her husband and two cats, continuing to create work to be cherished, lived with, and quietly passed down.
“Each piece is created to feel discovered; delicate, timeless, and gently alive.”
